Mother's Day Weekend

This past weekend was one of the best I've had in a long time. Things have been so busy the last few weeks that I haven't had much time to just relax and enjoy spending time with family, so that's exactly what we did.

My sister came to spend the weekend with us since she's apartment-hunting in Philly (more on that later!), so on Saturday morning Matt made us all a big breakfast. He made me a "Mother's Day omelet"with spinach, sundried tomatoes and fat free feta cheese, which went unpictured because I was too lazy to look for my camera. ;-) But I can tell you it was delicious!

After breakfast and taking care of some things around the house, Matt had a surprise in store for me. He had made plans for us to spend my first Mother's Day weekend at Laurita Winery, where they were having a Mother's Day music and wine event. We packed up our lawn chairs and blankets, and off we went!

As soon as we were set up on the grass, Matt got us a bottle of wine to enjoy. We are usually red wine drinkers, but it was a gorgeous 80 degrees out, so their "Down the Shore" white wine sounded perfect.

After filling up our glasses, we loaded Riker into the stroller for a long walk through the vineyard while sipping on our wine. It was heaven.

Even Riker thought so.

After Riker fell asleep, we made our way back to the lawn and ordered some lunch to nibble on.

We shared a mozzarella, roasted red pepper and arugula sandwich, and a cheese & cracker platter with apricot chutney.

To go along with our lunch, we ordered a bottle of Laurita's Norton, which is one of our favorite red wines. The grape comes from Virginia, and that's actually where we first tried Norton a few years ago when wine tasting with some of our friends who live in VA. It's really smooth but has nice body, and it wasn't too dry for sipping in the sunshine while watching the band play.

It was such a wonderful day! We were one of the last people to leave after the band packed up and the sun was starting to set. Both Matt and I agreed that we would come back to Laurita any time during the summer; they apparently have events quite often and the grounds are huge with lots of picnic areas. Definitely check it out if you're a local!
